Film + Photography
2022 - Session 2
Ella Bizianes
My name is Ella Bizianes and I’m from Louisville, KY. I started my film journey in fourth grade when I made a short commentary show called “The Ella Show.” My breath was taken away by the endless opportunities: I craved more. Over the years I began filming my day-to-day life, music videos, short films, and even a reality tv show. Film and photography are my outlets of expression and I love telling stories through my art. I have always had a passion for the arts and wanted to make a difference. GSA has helped me carry on this passion and I look forward to my future in the arts.

Ella Bryant
My name is Ella, and I’m a rising senior at Murray High School in Western KY. I strive to create impactful films that tackle human rights issues. My works cover an array of topics, but my signature works discuss gender and gender equality. I’ve been known to start uncomfortable conversations and then capture them with film through multiple genres. Over the last years, when the world was physically apart, the importance of film and a connection for people has only been elevated and has become a driving force behind my art. Through GSA I’ve learned the technical elements necessary to create a great film, allowing me more freedom within my work, so the discussion I intend to start isn’t muddled in poor film techniques. After GSA, I hope to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film and media arts alongside a degree in political science with the hopes of directing in the future.

Joseph Deters
Hey, my name is Joseph and I am a Junior from Kenton County. I’ve always been interested in the process of creating video and sharing it, but a few years ago I decided that I wanted it to be my career. I love all kinds of visual storytelling, and one of my favorite things in life is sharing it with others. GSA has made me so grateful to be around other artists that share the same creative vision. This experience has taught me a lot about photography and film, and I feel more confident than ever to go out and make my own work!

At a glance, I am a photographer, but at heart, I am an artist. The medium of photography was introduced to me when I was a child. I remember thinking how I couldn't wait to get a camera in my hands so that I could look at the world through a lens. I love getting on my feet, exploring, and discovering that perfect shot, it’s so fulfilling. This love I have for photography led me to GSA, and it’s been my dream ever since. GSA is the most life-changing experience I’ve had in my seventeen years of living, and I will walk away from this program as a stronger photographer than ever before. My teachers have given me the greatest disease, where I will never look at anything around me in quite the same way as I did before the program. I see light, I see scenes, I see moments, I see stories. I will take this vision with me everywhere I go throughout my life, and it will be present in all the work I do. Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I hope I can spread what I’ve learned to more aspiring photographers and filmmakers in my life.

Marlowe Hanel
Hey ya’ll! My name is Marlowe Hanel. I am a senior at Highlands Latin School in Louisville. I fell in love with photography two years ago, when I was sitting on the beach, watching the birds run along the shore. I realized most people miss the beauty in the small details, so I wanted to create something that would let people “stop and smell the roses” for longer than a second. That’s when I found that a camera could immortalize a moment.

I could only teach myself so much, so I came to GSA to learn. I know most people say this, but GSA really did change my life. It has stretched me as an artist, as we dove into the different sides of story-telling within Photography and Film. I don’t know it all, but I am confident in what I have learned. GSA has shown me incredible fields and opportunities where I can pursue Photography as more than just a hobby.

GSA, I am so grateful for everything you’ve done for me. Thank you for teaching me to look for the moments, both big and small, and how to truly appreciate them. Your constant affirmations and daily reminders will always stick with me: I am an artist, and I am going forth to make great art.

I never planned to come to GSA. I wasn’t too excited about it, but after packing my bags and seeing everyone here, I decided to make the most of the opportunity. I quickly learned that being around other photographers and filmmakers would not only impact my technical skill but the way I perceive the world through art. GSA has opened my eyes to a more creative and interactive lifestyle in film and photography. I have become more determined and passionate, discovering future opportunities and careers that interest me. I can connect my interest in business and the camera to create my own idea of life. I have been able to shoot different locations, objects, and perspectives, now knowing what I am capable of. I come to realize that the wave of emotions I have felt here has been an impact of personal growth. I feel grateful that I have learned so much through amazing friends and mentors at GSA who support me and will be there for me following my path in life.

Savannah Koch
Yo! My name is Savannah Koch and my passion is photography and film. As an artist, I've always struggled to find a creative outlet to express myself until I found photography. My camera has opened a new lens into my life, allowing me to share my thoughts freely. Photography has eliminated the binds of words and expression and allows people to see and experience a raw version of me. GSA has fostered an environment where I can focus on my art and completely immerse myself in a new world of expression. My time at GSA, a wonderful place full of talented artists, has forever impacted my life. I will never forget all that I’ve learned and everyone I've met on this journey.

Gael Martinez-Morison
My name is Gael Martinez-Morison, and I’m from Louisville, Kentucky. Art has always been a part of my life - I’ve constantly bumped music, read books, and admired anyone who could create something of significance with a paintbrush. But for most of my life, I enjoyed art passively. I felt myself to be too inadequate to be profound, and too insecure to be vulnerable. My journey as an artist began when the ability to express myself through art became a necessity, instead of a subdued, fleeting interest, and I went from telling myself “maybe one day,” to “today is the day.” Photography has been a part of this development, among writing, music, painting, and whatever else I can do to express myself. I think artistry is more of a state of mind, a means of perceptive thought, than an action you physically do. An idea is a work of art. I create for the primary purpose of human connection. My goal as an artist is to express intangible emotions which can’t be explored using the low-hanging fruit of everyday conversation. GSA has shown me that I am capable, and the vulnerability I’m able to express through art isn’t simply data thrown into the universe; my art can be meaningful to others, and I can help people untangle emotional knots, buried in their systems, they otherwise may never have been aware of.

Savannah Philpot
.Hey! My name is Savannah Philpot, but some people call me Sav. I’m a rising senior at North Laurel High School and a student in the media arts program at The Laurel County Center for Innovation in London, KY. I had a strange obsession with cameras as a child, later turning into my passion for photography. Growing up as an athlete, I have always had a love for sports and really enjoy sports photography, which is where I like to say I got my start as a photographer. I used my parents’ “fancy” camera to take my brother’s football pictures when I was in middle school and slowly started to grow my business from there. Since then, I have expanded to portraits, weddings, concerts, and so on. I filmed my first wedding video when I was 15 after only having experience with video a couple times prior, while also using a new camera. Now I have produced several wedding videos, along with working on short films with other filmmakers. I am also a lover of all things music and I am constantly planning for my next concert. I dream of being a concert photographer and traveling on tour with some of my favorite musicians. GSA has helped me so much to grow as an artist and I cannot find the words to express how grateful I am to have been able to experience GSA.

Ella Porter
Hey, hey, Ella here!! I’m a rising senior at Christian Academy of Louisville. I first fell in love with photography when we would do family portraits in the fall for our Christmas cards. I was fascinated by the flashy lenses and equipment. I received my first camera in the fourth grade, and for those first few years, my SD cards were filled with images of my pets and brothers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I developed skills in portrait photography by practicing with my friends. Soon, I had begun my very own portrait photography business, Optical Perceptions. Over the last three years, I have continued learning and refining my skills. I shoot seniors, newborns, and families, and I love using my camera to tell the stories of my subjects. I hope to expand my business and grow in clients in the future and hopefully own my own studio. GSA has provided me with lasting friendships and wonderful opportunities to continue getting better at what I do.

Claire Songer
My name is Claire Songer and I'm from Northern Kentucky. I am a junior at Campbell County high school. My parents both worked in the media so there was always a camera around the house. So, I have been doing photography for as long as I can remember. Whether it was a photo shoot with my friends for Instagram or a picture of a pretty sunset - I was always behind the camera. GSA has helped me grow in so many ways. Looking back at my older photos vs. the ones in these 3 weeks I can see so much growth, and I am so glad I was given this opportunity.

Lila Ungs
My name is Lila Ungs, and I am a senior at Danville High School. I have always been drawn to cameras; I’ve always been entranced by the way they give me the power to freeze time and capture moments. My brothers and I used to pass time by making home movies on our shared camcorder, which sparked my love for film. I started using my dad’s Nikon D70 in middle school, which sparked my love for photography. My admiration for this art form has always been an important part of me. It has helped me grow and view the world in a different way.

Adeline Ward
Hello! My name is Adeline Ward. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up I loved creating plays and making iMovie films with my friends. I started to gain an interest in photography as I grew older. I loved carrying my mom's old camera with me everywhere that I went. In high school, I was introduced to cinematography and news production and I never looked back. During the pandemic, I needed a way to escape from the hard times that we were all living. Through videography and photography, I was able to find a place of comfort and connect with so many people and tell the stories that I have collected from the world. Through my experience at GSA, I have been able to grow as both a photographer and videographer. I plan to go on sharing the beautiful moments in life using the lessons that I have learned at GSA.
